The Compass Model 77B is famous for seeing through nails and will pick out good targets in iron infested areas. The 100kHZ operating frequency is the reason this detector can out hunt modern detectors in iron. Modern detectors all operate at lower frequencies than 100kHZ.

I have two of these detectors available. They are both functional; however, there are a couple of minor issues that I want to fully disclose.

Both detectors are missing the battery compartment cover. This is not much more than a cosmetic issue, because the battery holders fit very snugly inside the detector anyway. The batteries are not going to fall out.

Also, the mercury switch bypass is not working on one of the detectors. That is, the mercury switch is always in operation. If you lay the detector horizontal, the mercury switch will mute the speaker to conserve battery power while you are digging. This is how I normally use the detector anyway. The other detector's mercury switch bypass works fine; however, the needle on the analog meter is stuck somewhere around 150. This is also no big deal. The meter serves little purpose on these vintage machines other than to check battery power.

I love these oldies. You can love them too for $135 each. Finding targets that nobody else can find due to iron masking, while using a 35 to 40 year old detector, is loads of fun. By the way, I have a PDF of the manual for these detectors that I would be happy to email the buyer.
